Peggy Dorman-Ramos

My husband was stationed at George AFB in 1991-1992, just over 10 months, during the shut-down/turn-over phase. They at one point required we line up for bottled water because ‘over fluoridation in the base water supply that’ll turn your teeth brown’. I was pregnant at the time and gave birth off-base. I had a hard pregnancy & developed SLE lupus while there, undiagnosed until 1994. Our child was born beautiful, but within 4 months was diagnosed with GURG – he began displaying signs of Autism that was diagnosed as Asperger’s/Autism at a later date. He was also diagnosed with autoimmune disease.

My husband was always sick/run down there. Now he’s had a left hip replacement (osteonecrosis) never used steroids or drugs. He’s also had heart failure & a heart transplant with 2 strokes. Our wonderful Veteran’s Service Officer says he doesn’t have a case, why bother I’m sad & angry. Can’t get my husband to work on this much as his physical/mental energy levels aren’t really there yet. This affected my husband worse, due to his levels of exposure – but my (now adult Autistic disabled) son & I are grossly affected as well & can’t exactly get help for us without my husband’s VA disability. I’m currently on SSD but it’s not enough to care for my adult son & myself.

Side note: Our daughter, born much later 2003, has recently tested positive for mixed connective tissue disease.

George AFB is the gift that keeps on giving!
